Samurai Champloo
Manglobe created the Japanese series. The anime revolves around three main characters. It begins with Fuu, a young woman who serves as a waitress in a tea shop. A Samurai band mistreats her. Two mysterious characters, Jin and Mugen, appear and save her from the harassment.
In another scene, Mugen and Jin begin to fight, when the latter proves that he can defeat Mugen. In the process, the magistrate’s son, Shibui Tomonoshina, dies. Mugen and Jin are to be killed as a punishment for the crime. However, Fuu helps them to escape.
Subsequently, Fuu suggests that they journey together to look for “the samurai who smells of sunflowers.” She sets conditions for them not to fight until the journey is complete.
Avatar: The Last Airbender
Created by Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino, this anime series is popularly known as Avatar or ATLA. The primary theme of the series is to demonstrate how Chinese martial arts such as bending can be manipulated.
In Avatar: The Last Airbender, the protagonist, the Avatar, can bend all four elements of nature- water, air, fire, and earth. The anime combination also has several cartoon elements. In the synopsis, Firelord Sozin, the ruler of the Fire Nation, start a world war to expand the territory he was ruling.
At his young age, Aang, the Avatar, flees from home to escape the weighty responsibility of protecting his people. He gets trapped in an iceberg near the South Pole. Subsequently, Sozin enforces a genocide against Air Nomads, knowing well that Avatar is an air bender. Sokka and Katara find Aang a hundred years later and free him.
The three travel together to the Northern Tribe to teach him how to bend water. The two were preparing Aang for battle with the Fire Nation. During that time, he is pursued by several enemies who want to kill him. On one occasion, the princess of the Northern Tribe, Yue, chooses to die to revive her tribe. Subsequently, Aang drives away the enemy fleet.
In the second season, we see Aang learning skills to bend air. He also uses his fire bending skills in the last season to defeat Ozai by stripping his fire bending power. Another character, Zuko, becomes the new ruler of Firelord and ends the war.
Kenichi: The Greatest Disciple
The story of the martial arts series tells the story of a high school student called Kenichi Shirahama. The 15-year old boy suffers from bullying for a long time. He becomes friends with a transfer student named Miu. Kenichi follows her to a master house for martial arts to train. Miu teaches him the basics of martial arts until he develops significant skills.
Several delinquents in the school begin to target him. He finds safety in the Ryozanpaku housing and becomes a disciple there. His daily routine involves training and fighting against a gang of bullies going by the name `Ragnarok. The group gets disbanded ultimately.
After a series of many conflicts and fights, Kenichi continues to improve his fighting skills at Ryozanpaku. Later, he becomes a great novelist and Miu’s husband. Kenichi also becomes a master in martial arts.
Tenjho Tenge
Created in 2004, the plot has the two main characters who are streetfighters. They enroll at a high school that teaches elite martial arts. One of them, Souchiou Nagi, is stubborn and cocky. Nevertheless, his behavior attracts the attention of one of the artists, Aya Natsume, who eventually wishes to marry him.
Unlike other anime series with the theme of martial arts, Tenjho Tenge involves both male and female characters in the fights. Similarly, the contests feature uniqueness and creativity in the styles and settings used. One aspect of style is seen in the Junken Club during an ambush. Subsequently, it leads to four different fights that take place simultaneously, but in different areas.
One of the characters takes on a staff wielder during the fights in a stairwell. The setting makes it difficult to be successful because the space is small and tight. Interestingly, other characters take their fights to a bathroom, whereby tools become significant obstacles.
Veritas
Veritas is mainly about street fighting and martial arts. It involves Ma Gangryong, a high school delinquent. Gangryong is defeated by a mysterious drifter (Lightning Tiger) because of poor fighting skills. However, he dedicates his time to learn how to fight better. He allows the mysterious drifter to train him to become stronger. Tiger leaves Gangryong after two months to grow on his own.
In essence, Gangryong is born a delinquent. It is interesting to watch him fighting in the streets against trained martial artists. He also brings out fun when he mocks his opponents, as weak as he is. The protagonist has great confidence that makes him more likable.
